Tips Air Ducts 1
Tips to Help Keep Your Air Ducts Clean (Part 1)

Contaminated air ducts can cause many problems that result in your heating and air conditioning system needing to work harder and wear down faster, resulting in unwanted heating and air conditioning repair bills and, in some cases, complete AC replacement.  A qualified HVAC company like BlueSky can evaluate the health and condition of your air ducts when performing routine AC maintenance service.   Let’s take a look at some tips to help keep your air ducts clean and avoid unnecessary heating and air conditioning repair bills:

    1. Don’t go cheap on air filters. Saving a few bucks now could end up costing you in heating and air conditioner repair services down the road.  Check the manufacturers documentation and use the highest efficiency air filter recommended for your system. If you are unsure about the best type of air filter to use, just ask us during your AC maintenance service and we will be happy to help.
    2. Change your air filters regularly. “How often should I change my air filters” is a question customer often ask during their routine AC maintenance service.  The answer depends on many variables.  If you live in an average home with no pets or outside construction, then 90 days is generally a good rule of thumb.  If you have pets or live in an area with a lot of outside debris, then you may need to change your air filters more often.
    3. Regularly vacuum and dust your home. Doing this can help keep dirt, dust and other contaminants from reaching your air ducts.   Some air conditioning companies recommend dusting and vacuuming once a week.  However, if you have children, pets, or live in an area with a lot of outside dust, pollen or debris, we suggest vacuuming and dusting more often.

As you can see, there are some simple strategies you can incorporate into your routine that can help keep your air ducts clean to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on your heating and air conditioning system.  Our next article will discuss how moisture can wreak havoc on your air ducts and offer some tips on how to control it.
